In true gothic tradition, the Otherhand family reside in their sprawling ancestral home, Otherhand Castle. The family has a trusty raven, Edgar, as their guardian and protector. In this third instalment, children Solstice and Cudweed find their father has appointed a severe and ferocious school master, Mr Brandish. Both Solstice and Cudweed endeavour to convince their father of his mistake and madcap mayhem and mischief abound with lashings of absurdist humour and gothic influence thrown in for good measure. The quality of writing here is exceptionally high and is equally matched by Pete Williamson’s stylish illustrations which perfectly convey the narrative in his evocative, Goreyesque black and white line drawing. High production values make this a wonderfully collectable book and a great new addition to the series.
